Trail description

The walk starts at the Paso de la Serrá car park and follows the footpath up through the pinewoods to the Laguna Negra and its walkway, then climbs out of the cirque past the Laguna Larga to the Fuentes del Duero, the spring where the Duero rises a short way below the 2,228 m Pico de Urbión. The Laguna Negra fills a glacial cirque, dammed by the moraine on which the walkway runs, and it is the setting of Antonio Machado's La tierra de Alvargonzález (1912). When the park regulates access, cars can go no further than the Paso de la Serrá, where parking is then charged, and on some of those days a bus runs up to the lake. The walk is about 5.9 km one way, with some 550 m of climbing.
