El Yelmo de La Pedriza

Trail description

A 2 km climb of about 380 m through the granite of La Pedriza above Manzanares el Real to the western foot of El Yelmo, at about 1,580 m. El Yelmo, 1,717 m, is a huge dome of pink granite that looks like a medieval helmet from the south and rises 95 m above its base on the north side. Its top is reached only by climbing, the normal route going up the Gran Grieta chimney, so the walk stops at the base. La Pedriza, some 3,200 hectares, is part of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park.
