Trail description

The loop starts at the Cerro del Hierro car park in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla, by the Casa de los Ingleses, and follows the signposted Sendero Cerro del Hierro through the pinnacles and old iron workings of the Monumento Natural. Iron in the limestone was mined here from Roman times into the 20th century, and the workings laid bare a karst of needles, pinnacles and corridors formed where rain and snow had partly dissolved the rock. The Casa de los Ingleses, now an information point, was home to the mine's engineers and managers, who came from Scotland in the late 19th century. The site, within the Sierra Morena de Sevilla Natural Park, was declared a Monumento Natural in 2003. The loop is about 2.7 km, with some 70 m of climbing.
