Trail description

The walk starts at the Los Tilos environmental information point in the Barranco del Agua, San Andrés y Sauces, and climbs the PR LP 7.1 path through the laurel forest to the Mirador de las Barandas, a popular out-and-back from the centre. The laurisilva here shelters important endemic plants and animals of La Palma. In 1983 UNESCO recognised 511 ha of the El Canal y Los Tiles estate as a biosphere reserve, the first on a Spanish island, and in 2002 the reserve was extended to the whole of La Palma. The Cascada de los Tilos waterfall is reached by a separate short path near the centre and is not on this route. The walk is about 1.0 km one way with some 195 m of climbing.
