Trail description

A 1.4 km walk with about 35 m of climbing on the Melville Koppies West trail in Johannesburg. Melville Koppies is a nature reserve and City Heritage Site next to the Johannesburg Botanical Garden; 'koppie' means small hill. In 1963 an Iron Age furnace for smelting iron ore was excavated there, in use at times between about 1060 and 1580 AD. The central section of the koppies needs a permit.
