Trail description
A flat 3.3 km walk through the Mata Nacional do Choupal on the bank of the Mondego river at Coimbra. The poplar wood was planted from 1791 under the Jesuit Estevao Cabral to hold the river banks and spread the Mondego's floods. It keeps the native riverside trees, poplar, alder, ash, willow and elm, and is celebrated by Coimbra's poets.
