Fragas de São Simão

Trail description

A 1.3 km walk from the Ermida de Sao Simao at the entrance to Casal de Sao Simao, down the boardwalks and steps of the Passadicos to the river beach at the Fragas de Sao Simao, dropping about 110 m. The schist village, in the Schist Villages network, is built of quartzite along a ridge that leads to the great rock walls of the Fragas. The chapel dates from the 15th century, and the nearby Sao Simao bridge is said to rest on Roman foundations.
