Trail description
The walk starts at Covão d'Ametade, the birch-wooded hollow at the head of the glacial Zêzere valley where the river begins to take shape below the Cântaros, and climbs the Rota do Maciço Central path before crossing on a side path to the Lagoa dos Cântaros. Covão d'Ametade is one of the basins over-deepened by ice in the Zêzere valley and later filled with post-glacial sediment. The lake lies at the foot of the Cântaro Gordo, a 1,875 m granite peak that stood above the glaciers as a nunatak during the last glaciation. The route is about 2.8 km one way, with some 220 m of climbing.
