Trail description

PR01 SMA, a linear 8.4 km walk of about 4 hours along the north coast of Santa Maria from Bananeiras down to Baía do Raposo with its watermills, then through forest to the red-clay Barreiro da Faneca geosite and over Monte Gordo to Anjos. Anjos has a small chapel thought to be the first in the Azores and a statue of Columbus.
