Trail description
The walk starts on a lane below the Convento de Santa Ana do Carmo in Colares and climbs into the Serra de Sintra, mostly on forest paths with short stretches of forest road, past the park entrance to the Convento dos Capuchos. The Franciscan convent was founded in 1560 by Álvaro de Castro, following a vow made by his father, João de Castro, and is also known as the Convent of Cork for the cork used throughout it as a finishing and decorative material. The friars kept the surrounding woods intact, and they are now one of the most notable examples of Sintra's primitive forest. The convent is managed by Parques de Sintra and visits require a paid ticket. The walk is about 2.8 km one way, with some 235 m of climbing.
