Caldeirão do Inferno

Trail description

The walk follows PR 9 from the Queimadas Forest Park along the Levada do Caldeirão Verde, through the Laurissilva forest, to the Caldeirão Verde and on to the Caldeirão do Inferno waterfall. The levada was built in the 18th century to carry water to the farmland of Faial parish, and the path passes through four tunnels cut in the rock. At the Caldeirão Verde, water falls about 100 m into a lagoon. Walkers must book an entry time slot online through the SIMplifica portal, and visitors over 12 pay a €4.50 fee. The walk is about 8.4 km one way.
