Trail description
The walk starts by the Boca do Risco café at Pastel, in the parish of Machico, and climbs the Vereda da Boca do Risco to the Boca do Risco, a pass at 360 m, ending at its natural viewpoint over the Atlantic and Madeira's east coast. From the pass, old paths continue along the cliffs west to Porto da Cruz via Larano and east to Caniçal. These old paths were once royal roads (caminhos reais) between villages, and the Machico tourism office recommends experience for the cliff path on to Larano, where steel cables protect eroded sections. The walk is about 1.8 km one way, with some 195 m of climbing.
