Trail description

A steep 4.7 km climb of about 720 m from San Pedro de Casta, at about 3,180 m, toward the Marcahuasi plateau, ending at about 3,870 m. The plateau, about 4 square kilometres at around 4,000 m, is known for its eroded granite rocks with shapes that recall faces and animals, and small pre-Columbian ruins. The altitude makes the ascent hard, and many visitors camp on the plateau.
