Huaca Arco Iris

Trail description

Short walk through the streets of La Esperanza, about 5 km from central Trujillo, to Huaca Arco Iris, also called Huaca del Dragón. The Chimú built this temple around the 11th century inside a perimeter wall of about 60 by 54 m with a single entrance on the west. Its walls carry relief friezes of a rainbow repeated seven times, each above a pair of serpents, thought to stand for fertility and rain.
