Trail description

Short walk from the hamlet of Honcopampa to the Honcopampa ruins, at about 3,460 m in San Miguel de Aco, Carhuaz, below the Cordillera Blanca. Archaeologist William Isbell identified the site in 1991 as a provincial centre of the Wari empire, with D-shaped buildings and patio groups like those at Wari in Ayacucho. Three multi-chambered chullpas built of large stones still stand. The remains date from about AD 200–800, spanning the Recuay and Wari cultures.
