Trail description

The low-cost walk into Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) from the Hidroeléctrica station, following the railway along the Urubamba river for about 10–11 km. It is almost flat and takes around 2.5–3 hours, on a path beside the tracks with loose ballast in places. Trains have priority on the line, so leave headphones off, listen for whistles and step well clear when a train passes. There are no turn-offs, so the way is easy to follow.
