Trail description

Climb from Ollantaytambo across the Inca bridge over the Urubamba and up the far side of the valley to Cachiqata (Kachiqhata), the Inca quarries that supplied the pink granite for Ollantaytambo's temple. Huge worked blocks still lie along the slope where they were abandoned on the way down, and are known locally as the 'tired stones' (piedras cansadas). The path climbs steadily over dry, exposed ground at high altitude, so acclimatise in Cusco first and carry water.
