Trail description
A flat 1.2 km walk through Gamlebyen, the old fortified town of Fredrikstad, past the Ferjeporten and Vollportvakten gates and the Fredrikstad Museum toward the Kommandantporten gate and the outer ravelins. Gamlebyen was founded on 12 September 1567 on the east side of the Glomma, where the river splits in two. With its town houses inside well-preserved fortifications from the 1660s it is counted as the best-preserved fortress town in Northern Europe.
