Matka Canyon to Vodno Millennium Cross

Trail description

This classic Skopje hike links the Matka canyon with the Millennium Cross on Vodno along the Vodno ridge. From the dam at Matka a steep path climbs out of the canyon, then the route follows forest paths and tracks east along the ridge to the cross at the top of Vodno, with wide views over Skopje and the canyon. It is about 9.5 km with around 900 m of ascent and takes 3 to 4 hours. There is no water between the monastery and the cross, so carry about two litres, and you can ride the cable car down to Sredno Vodno at the end.
