Trail description
A 6.1 km climb of about 690 m from the end of Mangorei Road to the Pouakai Tarns, at about 1,130 m on the Pouakai Range north-west of Mount Taranaki. The range is the eroded, bush-covered remnant of a collapsed Pleistocene stratovolcano. It is surrounded by a ring plain of lahar deposits from a huge collapse about 250,000 years ago.
