Trail description

Climb from Booth Road above Dunedin up the Pineapple Track and the Pineapple–Flagstaff Walk to the summit of Flagstaff (Whānau-paki). The track rises through native bush of broadleaf, fuchsia and mānuka onto the open tops, with panoramic views over Dunedin and Otago Harbour. Its name comes from trampers who rested at the top of a steep section to refresh themselves with tinned pineapple. In early colonial times a flag was raised on Flagstaff whenever a ship entered the harbour.
