Mount Eden Summit Walk

Trail description

A short 1.1 km loop with about 30 m of climbing from Puhi Huia Road around the summit of Maungawhau / Mount Eden, a scoria cone in Auckland. At 196 m, the summit is the highest natural point on the Auckland isthmus, and its bowl-shaped crater is 50 m deep. The volcano erupted from three craters about 28,000 years ago. Maungawhau means mountain of the whau tree, and it was the principal pā of Huakaiwaka, ancestor of Waiohua.
