Kaweka J from Makahu Saddle

Trail description

From the road end at Makahu Saddle the track climbs Makahu Spur above the bushline over open scree to Kaweka J (1,724 m), the highest point of the Kaweka Range in Hawke's Bay, with views to the central North Island volcanoes on a clear day. The walk is 7.7 km out and back with about 730 m of climbing. The ridge is fully exposed and can be dangerous in cloud, strong wind or snow.
