Trail description
A 4.8 km walk with about 130 m of climbing between the Huka Falls car park and County Avenue on the edge of Taupō. Huka Falls is a set of waterfalls on the Waikato River, which drains Lake Taupō. Just upstream the river narrows from about 100 m across to a canyon only 15 m wide, carved into lake sediments laid down before Taupō Volcano's Oruanui eruption 26,500 years ago. The flow often approaches 220 cubic metres a second, making it one of the highest flowing waterfalls in the world.
