Trail description
From Dawson Falls on the south-east side of Mount Taranaki the track climbs about 1,050 m, much of it on steps, past Hooker Shelter and up loose scoria to Panitahi / Fanthams Peak (1,966 m), the secondary cone of the mountain, where Syme Hut stands. In winter the upper slopes are icy and need an ice axe and crampons.
