Conical Hill Track

Trail description

A 2 km climb of about 170 m from Jacks Pass Road in Hanmer Springs up the Conical Hill Walkway to the 550 m summit of Conical Hill. The township lies at the base of the hill, and the walk gives a panoramic view over Hanmer Springs. The town, in the Hurunui District about 130 km north-west of Christchurch, is known for its hot pools. Its Māori name, Te Whakatakanga o te ngārahu o te ahi a Tamatea, means where the ashes of Tamatea's fire lay.
