Trail description
From the edge of Arrowtown the old 4WD Macetown Road follows the Arrow River upstream for 13.2 km, with about 390 m of climbing and many fords, to Macetown, an abandoned gold-mining town of the 1860s where a few restored stone buildings and a DOC campsite remain. The road is closed to ordinary vehicles and is shared with 4WD tours and mountain bikers. The river crossings are unsafe when the Arrow River is high, and the walk back is the same way.
