Trail description

This is the Montenegrin approach to Trnovacko Lake, the heart-shaped mountain lake below Maglic and Volujak, following a stage of the Via Dinarica. The marked trail climbs from the village of Mratinje, north of Pluzine, through beech and then pine forest to the high Carev Do plateau before dropping to the lake shore at about 1,517 m. It is roughly 13 to 14 km one way with around 1,400 m of ascent, a demanding 5 to 7 hours, so many hikers camp or stay at the lake hut. There are springs at the start and a few hours in. Go from June to September, as snow can linger into June.
