Trail description

From Bukumirsko Jezero, a small mountain lake at about 1,440 m in the Kuci highlands, a marked trail climbs steeply to Stitan (2,172 m) and then along the ridge to Surdup Peak (2,184 m), with wide views over the border peaks towards Albania and the Komovi massif. It is about 6.5 km one way, and most hikers make it an 11 km loop of 5 to 6 hours by descending through a pass back to the valley. The terrain is steep and rocky and a few sections are a little overgrown, although the route is waymarked throughout and an information board stands by the dirt road near the lake. Go from late spring to early autumn, ideally early in the season when the lake is still full, and avoid the ridge in stormy weather. The lake is reached by a partly unpaved road branching off the road from Verusa, and phone signal is very limited in the area.
