Trail description

Out-and-back walk from the Sierra Chincua visitor centre, a few kilometres above Angangueo, along the forest trail to the monarch butterfly colonies in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. From November to March millions of monarchs that have flown more than 4,000 km from Canada and the United States roost in the fir (oyamel) forest here. The walk to the colonies takes 45–60 minutes each way, and horses can be hired. The sanctuary is open in the season from 9:00 to 17:00.
