Presa de la Olla

Walk from the Jardín de la Unión in central Guanajuato up the Paseo de la Presa to the Presa de la Olla, the city's colonial reservoir. The dam was built between 1741 and 1749 after a great drought. In 1795 the intendant Riaño had a carriage road laid out along the valley, which became the tree-lined Paseo de la Presa. The reservoir is now a park with boat hire, and its sluices are opened each July in a traditional festival.
