Iztaccíhuatl: La Joya al Primer Portillo

Trail description

A 1.7 km climb of about 270 m from the La Joya hut to the Primer Portillo, the first notch on the ridge of Iztaccíhuatl, with views over to Popocatépetl. The walk starts at about 3,980 m and reaches 4,230 m, high enough for altitude sickness, so take it slowly and turn back with a headache or dizziness; register and pay the national park entry at the Paso de Cortés.
