Estribo Grande

Trail description

Walk from Pátzcuaro up the old road past the Calvario chapel and on to the viewpoint on El Estribo Grande, an extinct volcano about 3 km from the town centre. The summit, at over 2,400 m, looks out over Lake Pátzcuaro, the islands of Janitzio and Yunuén and the lakeside villages. Local people climb its long stairway of about 400 steps for morning exercise, and there are shelters and picnic grills at the top.
