El Cerrito

Trail description

Walk through Corregidora, just south of Querétaro, to the archaeological zone of El Cerrito and its great pyramid. The pyramid measures 83 m a side and almost 30 m high, with 13 stepped levels, and was long taken for a natural hill, which gave the site its name. The settlement began as a farming village early in the first millennium AD, and its later Toltec-style buildings include a sunken patio and colonnaded halls. A site museum stands near the entrance.
