Cerro de la Estrella

Trail description

Climb through the streets of Iztapalapa and up the paths of Cerro de la Estrella (Huizachtépetl) to the pyramid on its summit. The Mexica held the New Fire ceremony here every 52 years, lighting a fire on the hilltop to mark the start of a new calendar cycle, last in 1507. Most of the hill was declared a national park in 1938. The Museo del Fuego Nuevo, built in 1997–98 on the north slope, holds finds from the site.
