Cacaxtla Xochitécatl

Trail description

A 1.7 km walk with about 90 m of climbing from the Cacaxtla archaeological zone across to Xochitécatl, past its Pirámide de las Flores and the Edificio de la Serpiente. Cacaxtla has a sprawling palace with brightly coloured Maya-style murals; with nearby Xochitécatl, its more public ceremonial complex, it prospered from about 650 to 900 CE. Xochitécatl's ruins cover 12 ha on top of a volcanic dome, with major buildings from 1000-400 BC.
