Barranca de Huentitán

Trail description

A 1.5 km walk on the floor of the Barranca de Huentitan, the canyon more than 600 m deep on the northern edge of Guadalajara, near the Santiago river at about 1,000 m. It passes the abandoned village of Las Juntas, built by families of workers at a CFE hydroelectric plant and emptied in the 2000s over plans for a dam, now among mango orchards. Hikers usually come down from the rim on a trail that starts at a gate, to visit the river, the Arcediano bridge and the old railway tracks.
