The first day of the climb up Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in Southeast Asia, from Timpohon Gate to the Laban Rata rest house. The well-built trail climbs through montane and cloud forest with rest shelters and changing vegetation. A steady, tiring ascent before the pre-dawn summit push.
