Trail description

The first full section of the Lebanon Mountain Trail leaves the town of Qbaiyat in Akkar, follows streams out of town and passes a monastery before a long climb of about 10 km to Akkar el Atika. Beyond the halfway point the country turns properly mountainous, with pine and fir forests, scattered junipers and several permanent springs. It is about 16 to 20 km one way with close to 1000 m of ascent, mostly on agricultural roads and footpaths, and ends in the village of Tashea. The section is open all year, though the upper part can hold snow in winter.
