Trail description

A 1.2 km climb of about 120 m from the car park up the marked path to the crest of the Singing Dune in Altyn-Emel National Park, 183 km northeast of Almaty. The dune, up to 3 km long and 150 m high, lies between the Bolshoy and Maly Kalkan ridges, and in dry weather its sand gives off a sound like an organ. It has stayed in place for thousands of years, fed by sand the wind lifts from the banks of the Ili, and from the top the view takes in the Ili river and the snowy Ketmen range.
