Trail description

A 1.6 km walk with about 160 m of climbing from the car park in the Kaindy valley along the river to Lake Kaindy, in Kolsay Lakes National Park about 130 km east of Almaty. The 400 m long lake, up to 30 m deep, formed when the 1911 Kebin earthquake set off a limestone landslide that dammed the gorge. Bare trunks of drowned Schrenk spruces still rise from its blue-green water, which is why it is often called the sunken forest.
