Zao Okama Crater

Trail description

A short 1.3 km walk along the Umanose ridge on the rim of the Okama crater in the Zao mountains, between about 1,780 and 1,840 m on the border of Miyagi and Yamagata. Okama is an emerald crater lake about 325 m across and 27 m deep whose colour changes with the light. From late April to early November a toll road off the Zao Echo Line reaches a car park just below Katta-dake, and the ridge continues to Kumano-dake, the highest point at 1,841 m.
