Trail description

Taisenzan, 1,786 m, is a volcano in the eastern Kuju range in Taketa, Oita, facing Mount Kuju across the Bogatsuru marsh. This route follows the Kyushu Nature Trail from the north over the Kitataisen ridge to the summit. Just below the top lies Oike, a round crater lake, and the slopes hold a national natural monument community of Miyama-kirishima azaleas that flower in June. The tomb of Nakagawa Hisakiyo, third lord of the Oka domain, stands on its flank at about 1,400 m.
