Trail description
The main route on the Shiretoko Peninsula from the Iwaobetsu Onsen trailhead up through birch forest and the Gindai snow gully to the 1,661 m summit of Mount Rausu, a World Heritage volcano with views to the Kuril Islands. Brown bears are common here, so carry a bear bell and spray; snow lingers in the gullies into July.
