Trail description

From the Nonaka Onsen lodge at the foot of Meakan in Akan-Mashu National Park the trail climbs through Sakhalin fir forest and creeping pine onto bare volcanic slopes to the 1,499 m summit on the rim of a steaming crater. Meakan is an active volcano and the trail closes when the alert level rises; brown bears live in the area.
