From the Sakurazaka parking above Shimizu in Minamiuonuma the Ido-one ridge trail climbs through beech forest and onto open slopes to the broad summit plateau of Mount Makihata (1,967 m), with its ponds and alpine wetlands. It is a long climb of about 1,300 m.
