Mount Higashi-Nupukaushi

Trail description

Higashi-Nupukaushinupuri, 1,252 m, is a lava dome of the Shikaribetsu volcanic group in Daisetsuzan National Park. This route climbs from Shirakaba Pass on the west side in about an hour to the summit, which looks out over the Tokachi plain. The trail crosses boulder fields where pikas live, and cold air from the rock gaps lets high alpine plants grow here. Lake Shikaribetsu to the north was dammed by this and the western dome.
