Trail description
A 4.8 km climb of about 505 m from the eighth station to the summit of Mount Gassan, 1,984 m, where the Gassan Shrine stands. Gassan is a stratovolcano and the highest of the Three Mountains of Dewa in Yamagata. The trail is unpaved and uses hands in places, it should not be climbed in strong wind or heavy rain, and heavy snow closes the mountain in winter.
