Trail description

Daimonjiyama, 465 m, is the western peak of Nyoigatake in the Higashiyama hills of Kyoto, famous for the giant character dai lit on its slope during the Gozan Okuribi fire festival on 16 August. This walk climbs from the Ginkakuji side past the bonfire beds to the summit, which looks out over the whole city of Kyoto. It is one of the most popular hikes in Kyoto, and the Higashiyama section of the Kyoto Trail crosses the mountain.
