Azumaya, 2,354 m, is a stratovolcano on the border of Nagano and Gunma and one of Japan's 100 famous mountains. This route climbs from the Tsumagoi side over Uragurayama on the old caldera rim to the summit, where the inner shrines of Yamaga Shrine stand. After Asama it is the highest peak on the Shinshu-Joshu border. The summit looks over the Sugadaira highlands and Mount Neko.
